That isn't the case. While Farming Simulator 15 does indeed simulate farming, there's a distinct feeling that you need to know a heck of a lot more than any game reasonably should expect you to before you start. Not only that, but the amount of focus placed on those licenced machines seems to have come at the expense of massive chunks of gameplay.

These seemingly minor issues soon build up, taking what is - at first glance - a very detailed and interesting game, and leaving it out to die in the sun. Speaking of which, the most utterly confusing thing you'll find here is the way the game handles time. Firstly, there's never an indication of what season you're in, which is pretty darned important in farming, we're led to believe. Secondly, you never ever sleep. You're on the go 24 hours a day, working in darkness with a torch once the sun goes down. Thirdly, there's an option to speed up the passage of time by up to 120x and while this makes the in-game clock spin quicker and crops grow faster, it doesn't actually accelerate anything else. So, if your worker takes 10 in-game minutes to harvest a small field, he'll still move at the same velocity when you've sped things up, meaning that he takes a full day to drive up and down a field three or four times. It just makes no sense. Not that the rest of the game world does, given that fields that you haven't purchased just lay empty all year round thanks to the fact that there are no AI farmers or anything of any sort to compete with, other than your own boredom.

Farming Simulator 15 is a simulation game. In a simulation game the main goal is to simulate a real life situation either for entertainment or education. There are many different types of simulation games such as flying, sports, driving, and farming. One of the earliest simulation games was SimCity which is considered a social simulation game.

Eventually, money permitting, your farm will sprout greenhouses, solar panels and more advanced machinery. but the novelty soon wears thin from the slow pace and endless repetition it takes to build a farming empire. We have vague memories of enjoying completing our first harvest, but we're no longer a reliable source on 'fun'. Not after this.

There's also no fun in being a bully. We wanted to play a great farming game, not Pick on Farming Simulator Just Because it's a Farming Simulator, Simulator. But this is neither entertaining for curious gamers or realistic an intuitive enough for those wanting an accurate simulation of farm life. Some day there will be a perfect farming game that'll shut up those city boy naysayers for good, but this sadly just isn't it.

Unfortunately, no. All the tutorials provide minimal explanation and guidance on the farming aspect and instead, chooses to focus on the mechanical aspects of teaching you how to move backwards and forwards, turn on your tractor, and that you must move your harvester in straight lines through the fields in order to harvest the wheat. Perhaps this is being much too picky. Perhaps it is understandable that tutorials are supposed to teach you the absolute mechanical basics. Surely the in-game tips, helpline and mini-tutorial will be much more helpful in the more advanced topics.

I suspect the lack of historical commodity price records is in part due to the confusing way that Farming Simulator 15 treats the passage of time. Naturally, farming is an activity that takes a very long time. Seasons pass as a normal farmer waits for his planted crop to be ready for harvest and it would be foolhardy for the game to make the player wait months to harvest. Thus, you get the option to speed up game time, which at normal speeds is about one second for every game minute, by 150 times.

With all of the options of the game, the PS4 version is missing a couple critical ones. The speed of looking around with the right stick is painfully slow. Running as opposed to walking helped a tiny bit, but still felt somewhat like trying to maneuver when drunk. You could see things happening but your body would not let you react quickly no matter how hard you concentrated. I realize the game is mostly meant to be played while driving and operating farming equipment, but with the new, more detailed maps and collectible coins hidden about, walking was severely overlooked and made to be torturous. You cannot change the speed in the options menu, either. Some important console-based options were somehow omitted in this version of Farming Simulator, making the lack of a mouse to quickly look and move around painfully obvious.

At the start of your farming career, there is a field ready for harvesting next to your farm. You can harvest the field, then put the wheat in the closest tractor trailer and then go sell your grain in town.
