Situated atop three hills, Siena qualifies as Italy's ultimate "hill town." Its thriving historic center, with movie-set lanes cascading every which way, offers Italy's best medieval city experience. For those who dream of a Fiat-free Italy, Siena is a haven. Pedestrians rule in the old center of town, as the only drivers allowed are residents and cabbies. Nurse a drink on the main square, then wander narrow streets, still studded with iron rings to tether horses. While nearby Florence has the blockbuster museums, Siena has an easy-to-enjoy soul: Courtyards sport flower-decked wells, alleys dead-end at rooftop views, and colorful flags of neighborhood pride flutter everywhere. Even with all the tourists, a strong local spirit pervades.

Prior to this review, the first Mario movie was unknown to me. Released in select theaters in Japan to promote the recent release of the game, Super Mario Bros. 2 in 1986, Super Mario Bros. The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach was not only the first Mario movie but the first ever video game movie as well. Considering how obscure this movie is today (you can find it on YouTube for free), this movie has a special place in both film and video game history. So how does it hold up? It is a interesting first attempt at a video game movie.
The plot goes how you expect, Mario and Luigi travel to the Mushroom Kingdom to save Princess Peach from the evil King Koopa. Yes, since this movie was never released officially in the Western market, the voice acting remains in Japanese. There are fan dubs that transform the characters into a comical counterpart of their typical English voices, especially Peach, but the subtitles and the original Japanese voices suit this movie perfectly fine.
