PAGPS welcomes you to its 28th Annual Holiday Event! We will start the night learning from Dr. Fabiola Desmont, who will be presenting on "Parenting with the Collective: Utilizing a Group Framework to Strengthen Parenting Practices," followed by great food and even better company! This is a great opportunity to network, socialize and learn in a community of people committed to the value of group psychotherapy.

PRESENTER: DR. FABIOLA DESMONT

Dr. Desmont's presentation briefly introduces Collective Parenting, a conceptual framework exploring a collectivist parenting approach applicable to various family structures, and The Parenting-CRADLE group practice framework. Both are reflected in the African Proverb, "It takes a village," meaning the community is devoted to raising children regardless of a child's biological parents. Collective Parenting (CP) is the conceptual framework that challenges Western nuclear parenting practices that tend to exclude extended family and community participation. Parenting-CRADLE, on the other hand, is a group practice framework that engages parents/caregivers in a mutual-aid group process that helps access cultural knowledge and wisdom while examining historical racial discrimination, trauma, and oppression that impacts parenting practices. This framework aims to re-frame or re-establish strengths that can bring a sense of pride or self-worth to parents/caregivers and children.

From attendance at this in-person event, participants will be able to:

1. describe the CP framework and Parenting-CRADLE group practice framework

2. explain the history of extended and fictive kin and community building in parenting practices

3. discuss the rationale for utilizing group methods for understanding CP implications
