Why is racism so hard to talk about? The influence of racism on our collective psyche is tremendous, whether we are consciously aware of it or not. Structural racism has social and political implications that affect clinicians and clients alike. While it can be challenging and uncomfortable to discuss, increasing our awareness and pushing past our own resistances to exploring racial dynamics is crucial to our work with increasingly diverse populations. Our ability to examine race-related issues enhances personal and professional confidence.
