About the Group

"Exploring Masculinity" Men's Therapy Group
More than ever before, what it means to be a man is changing. Many of us struggle with how to integrate and reconcile traditional norms of masculinity with a rapidly changing modern world. Technology has made us more connected than ever—so why are we seeing an epidemic of male loneliness? Why do so many men report having less access to friends, mentors, and healthy male role models compared to previous generations? Although men report higher social isolation and depression, they are less likely to seek mental health treatment or even reach out to social contacts for support. Many men feel that they are expected to uphold traditional masculine qualities —stoicism, self-reliance, toughness—while losing the traditional support structures and advantages available to men of previous generations.

This interpersonal therapy group is designed to explore the question "What does it mean to be a man in 2026?" and will touch on myriad topics, including:
-Defining ourselves apart from our work
-Finding an authentic, personally meaningful definition of masculinity
-Being better male role models (even if we didn’t have our own)
-Living with loneliness, isolation, and separation (addressing the “lone wolf” syndrome)
-Keeping a healthy perspective; grounding ourselves; exercising a sense of humor
-Focusing on the need for health and self-care
-Developing intimacy in our lives; learning how to share feelings without feeling ashamed or “less of a man”
-Learning how to exercise gender roles without being toxic or overly rigid in relationships
-Tackling stereotypes and tropes of masculinity
-Romantic frustration and sex; addressing the roots of misogyny
-Understanding rage and transforming it into a constructive force
